The If ’56 Was ’69 Set is a sonic journey through the legendary eras of the Fender Stratocaster—a carefully balanced combination of pickups that deliver a unique sound in every position while blending seamlessly and working perfectly together.
The dense, warm tone of the ’50s meets the more open, biting response of the late ’60s. The result is a set that remains consistent across all positions and truly shines in real-world playing situations.
The neck pickup delivers a full, woody tone that is dense yet transparent—powerful, but never overpowering. The middle pickup complements this character with a slightly more direct response and greater sustain, while remaining tonally close to the neck and ideally suited to powerful solo sounds. The bridge pickup was deliberately voiced to be fuller and more substantial than classic versions. It sounds direct, slightly rough, and clear, without the often-criticized “thinness” of many Strat bridge pickups.
The entire set is designed to overcome the tonal weaknesses traditionally found in these positions and replace them with a balanced, musical frequency response.
The best of both eras - further developed and tastefully modernized.
